The Central Electricity Authority has given its clearance to Hirong hydroelectric power project in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The CEA has accorded clearance to Jaypee Arunachal Power's (JAPL) 500-MW hydroelectric power project at a total cost of Rs 5,532.63 crore. This includes interest during construction of Rs 1,362.03 crore; financing cost of Rs 40.66 crore; and additional foreign component of €36.24 million (approx. Rs 256.8 crore).
JAPL submitted the updated DPR to CEA in January 2013. As per revised DPR, the civil work cost has been estimated at Rs 3,104.41 crore and electromechanical work at Rs 978.43 crore. Under civil works, a provision of Rs 167.39 crore has been made for cost of land for various project components. This was based on the land rates of the Department of Land Management of the Arunachal Pradesh government. However, the final cost of land will depend on the final award.
The Hirong hydroelectric project envisages the construction of four units of 125 MW each. The work on the project is likely to commence in January 2014. It is expected to be completed within 78 months.
