City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO) is planning to commission Navi Mumbai international airport project at Panvel, in Maharashtra, by December 2016.
At present, the company is undertaking the land acquisition process. It is developing a 600 sq km township project for project-affected persons. The airport project, estimated to cost Rs 14,573 crore, requires 12,000 acre.
Other than the airport, CIDCO has started infrastructure development projects, worth Rs 20,000 crore, in Navi Mumbai. The other key infrastructure projects include the Rs 2,100 crore metro rail; the Rs 1,412 crore Nerul-Belapur-Uran railway; and the Rs 1,450 crore Balganga dam to ensure drinking water to the city. CIDCO has also undertaken several others projects like coastal roads and bridges. Further, it has chalked out a plan to construct 6,000 affordable houses.
