The Union government has assured full support for the expansion and modernisation of the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (KTPS) in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, Telangana.
The commitment was conveyed by Union Minister of State for Power Shripad Naik in response to a plea raised by Khammam MP R Raghurama Reddy under Rule 377 during Parliament’s Monsoon Session. KTPS currently operates four units with a total capacity of 1,800 MW. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change had granted clearance for Stage-VII of KTPS in 2015. Telangana State Power Generation Corporation plans to decommission the older A, B, and C stations by 2025.
The next phase involves establishing two new 800 MW units within the decommissioned premises, for which a detailed project report (DPR) is to be prepared. The Centre will facilitate environmental clearances, coal linkages, and other requirements to ensure smooth execution of the expansion and modernisation.
