Coastal Tamil Nadu Power has received approval from the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC), on thermal and coal mining for its imported coal-based Ultra Mega Power Projects (UMPP), in Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu.
The committee has accorded clearance for the 4,000 MW power plant subject to specific conditions that include Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance for permissible activities in CRZ area; harnessing solar power within the premises of the plant, and continuous monitoring of surface water quantity and quality and submission of records to the Ministry.
In addition to this, Coastal Tamil Nadu Power has to ensure implementation of corporate social responsibility schemes based on need-based assessment, and to also create a common Green Endowment Fund out of EMP budgets and Fishermen Endowment Welfare Fund of Rs one crore to enhance the quality of life of the fishermen community.
The company is developing a 4,000 MW coal fired thermal-based ultra mega power project at Cheyyur with an estimated investment of Rs 18,000 crore.
