The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has finalised the consultants for carrying out a detailed project report (DPR) on the Nariman Point-Kandivli Coastal Freeway project in Mumbai.
The MCGM, proponent of the project, has finalised two consultants for the road project. A consortium of the Indo-French consultancy firm, STUP consultants, and a multi-national consultant, Ernst & Young, have been finalised for the project.
The project envisages development of the Nariman Point-Kandivli coastal freeway in length of 35.6 km, parallel to the coast in Mumbai, at an estimated cost of Rs 8,000 crore.
As per the Maharashtra government estimate, out of 35.6 km of the freeway, around 9.8 km portion of the sea will have to be reclaimed for this road project, which will require the approval of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) and other government agencies.
Though MCGM has finalised the consultants for the project the corporation has yet to sign an agreement for the same.
As per the agreement, the consultants will have to prepare a feasibility report and design that will limit the scope of work that requires an NOC from MoEF.
After receiving approval from the civic standing committee, the work order for the project will be issued.
