The Kerala Government is expected to implement the World Bank-funded Dam
Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) from January 2011.
The project aims at improving the safety and operational performance of
selected structures and will cover dams, barrages and regulators, totalling 19,
of the Irrigation Department and 12 projects of the Kerala State Electricity
Board.
The project is to be executed in three phase at a cost of Rs 211.17 crore.
The Irrigation Department has sought the release of Rs 34 crore in 2011 to take
up the first phase of the project, covering the Malampuzha, Walayar,
Peechi and Neyyar dams.
