Five infrastructure development companies have
shown interest for developing the Gopalpur port on the east coast of Orissa. The
companies include -- BHP-Billiton Minerals, Integrax Burhat of Malaysia, Larsen
& Toubro, Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services and Orissa
Stevedors (OSL).
The first two companies have expressed to develop
the port on their own, and the other three plan to form a consortium with one
and two partners for the development of the port.
RITES the consultant for the Orissa government to
select a developer for the Gopalpur port, is expecting to pick up a bidder for
the job by March 2005. The process of selecting of the developer would take
about four and a half months.
RITES is now preparing the documents for the
request for proposal in consultation with the state government.The government
has now decided to go for international competitive biddings and the project
would be awarded on built-own-operate-share and transfer basis.
