On 21 December 2013, Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, laid the foundation for the new beverage plant of PepsiCo India at Sri City industrial park.
The project, spread over 80 acre, will be developed in three phases. The beverage plant, estimated to cost Rs 1,230 crore, is proposed to be completed by 2018. The company will produce the full range of beverages - carbonated drinks, fruit-based drinks and sports drinks at the plant. Each of the three phases will have a production capacity of around 1.2 million ltr per day.
Phase-I of the project entails an investment of Rs 450 crore and is expected to be operational by FY15.
The project is part of the company's proposed investment plan worth Rs 33,000 crore which it wants to implement in the country with its partner, by 2020.
Apart from this, the company is also planning to make the proposed location the national hub for sourcing mango pulp, given the large number of mango orchards in Andhra Pradesh.
PepsiCo already has a beverage plant at Sangareddy near Hyderabad.
