On 16 February 2014, Mallikarjun Kharge, Union Railway Minister, laid the foundation stone for Fiat Bogies manufacturing factory at Badiyal and Kadechur villages in Yadgir district of Karnataka.
The total cost of the project is over Rs 750 crore and the new facility will manufacture Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) design stainless steel coaches as well as state-of-the-art passenger bogies.
The new facility will annually produce 600 fiat bogie frames which will serve the need of 300 new coach sets. The new coach factory will have facilities for robotic welding, fabrication, shot blasting and frame machining.
Besides, the foundation stone for construction of the new railway line between Wadi and Gadag will be laid on 28 February 2014, by Siddaramaiah, Chief Minister of Karnataka.
The new railway line between Wadi and Gadag is estimated to cost Rs 1,922 crore.
