GMR Infrastructure, in a consortium with NAPC, has commissioned Phase-I of the 29.5 km Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Chennai district of Tamil Nadu.
Phase-I of the project involved linking Vandalur to Nazarathpet on NH-4 to Nemilichery on NH-205, at a cost of Rs 1,081.54 crore, on a DBFOT annuity basis.
In June 2009, the GMR Group-led consortium had emerged as the lowest bidder in an internationally competitive bid for the ORR project. GMR has a stake holding of 90 per cent in the consortium whereas the remaining is with NAPC.
The ORR project undertaken by Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) will link the peripheral areas of the city from Vandalur in the south, about 25 km from Chennai, on NH-45, to Minjur to the North of Chennai. The 62 km ORR project is being developed in two phases.
Phase-II of the project will link Nemilichery to Minjur, with a stretch of 32 km, and will be implemented on a BOT annuity basis.
