GVK Power & Infrastructure is soon planning to commission its Phase I of Goindwal Sahib thermal power project located in Tarn Taran district of Punjab.
The company is at advanced stage of commissioning Phase I with 2X270 MW thermal power project and will start operations by July 2013. Initially, GVK Power & Infrastructure will run the plant making short term coal purchase arrangements. Later the coal will be sourced from Tokisud and Seregarh coal mines located in Jharkhand. The project has a power purchase agreement with Punjab State Utility for 25 years.
Meanwhile, GVK Group is planning to develop Phase II with 2x660 MW capacity of thermal power project at the same location, taking the installed capacity to 1,860 MW. The execution of the Phase II of the project hinges on the fuel linkage, applications for which have already been made.
