The Ganderbal hydropower project of Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation, has obtained approval from the Central Electricity Authority.
The 93 MW power plant is located on Sind (Jhelum) river in Jammu & Kashmir. The CEA has accorded Techno Economic Clearance to the project. Pursuant to approval, the developer is planning to complete the bidding process for construction of the project by the end of July 2014.
The project, estimated to cost Rs 1,041 crore, will be developed on EPC mode. The Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation will soon approach financial institutions for funding over Rs 700 crore construction cost of the project with state equity of around Rs 300 crore.
Meanwhile, one more power project -- Sawlakote hydropower unit in the state, has received approval from the Geological Survey of India. The project, with 1,856 MW capacity, is expected to be completed by 2021.
