The Andhra Pradesh government yesterday cleared the expansion of Gangavaram Port at a revised cost of Rs 1,318.73 crore.
As per the government order, the Gangavaram Port Project, Phase-II includes the expansion plan consisting of four berths — one coal and three multipurpose, with increased cargo handling capacity from 17.55 to 41.00 million tpa within five years.
In May 2012, ITD Cementation India secured the contract for design and construction of the four new berths. While Spanish company, Duro Felguera bagged an order for supply of key equipment for the new coal berth. Work on the project is presently underway and nearing completion.
The Gangavaram Port Project, Phase-I was completed in 2008 with an investment of Rs 1,700 crore.
