The railway authorities are bracing for a mono rail link between Noida and Agra. During the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, the Chief Minister hinted at the prospect of a 200 km mono rail link project.
A meeting of railway department authorities was held on 19 November 2014, in Lucknow about this project, to be implemented by the Noida Metro Rail Corporation. As per the proposal, the mono rail will connect the Mahamaya flyover in Noida, the Buddh International Circuit, and Mathura with Agra. The initial plan is for the system to run along the Yamuna.
In addition, the railway authorities are also gearing up for the start of rail facilities from Agra to Bateshwar, as operations are expected to begin from January 2015. This project was announced by former prime minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, on 1 April, 1999. Till now, more than Rs 200 crore has been spent and problems in land acquisition are causing a delay in execution.
