The Ministry of Shipping has chalked out a plan to launch new projects worth Rs 13,700 crore and is also planning to add about 259 million tonne capacity during 2014.
The ministry intends to award over 35 projects. Of the total, about 23 projects worth Rs 5,202 crore will be taken up on a priority basis, while the rest have been marked as standby projects. It will pay attention to railroad connectivity and port infrastructure projects.
Further, the ministry is planning to award a total of 17 public-private partnership (PPP) projects worth Rs 10,277 crore in 2014. These projects will involve a Rs 1,758 crore Diamond Harbour container terminal at Kolkata Port; a Rs 681 crore deep draught iron ore berth at Paradip Port; and the Rs 2,496 crore additional liquid terminal at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust.
