Group Legrand India has successfully installed a biodegradable waste processing unit at INS Venduruthy, part of the Southern Naval Command in Kochi.
This initiative aligns with the Naval Base’s goal of achieving zero waste and supports India’s circular economy objectives. The fully automatic organic waste processing unit, with a capacity of 1 tonne per day, converts biodegradable waste into compost within 12 hours, using a combination of shredding and drying processes—without relying on electrical heating coils, ensuring energy efficiency. The patented technology enables 100 percent biodegradable waste management through advanced automation, eliminating emissions.
The project builds on Legrand India’s previous collaboration with the Naval Base, where a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) for plastic recycling was set up, recycling over 100 tonnes of plastic annually. With this new waste management system, INS Venduruthy is closer to its vision of zero solid waste output for its 11,000+ strong community.
