The drinking water project worth Rs 417 crore, undertaken by Gujarat Water Infrastructure, was dedicated to the public of Saurashtra region, in Gujarat.
On 13 July 2014, Anandi Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat, inaugurated the drinking water project at Navda, in Barvala of Botad district, to improve the Narmada water supply in the region.
The water project includes a 77 km long pipeline which will carry water from Navda pumping station to Budhel village, from where it will be pumped further into parts of Bhavnagar district. The pumping station at Navda has also been upgraded for a parallel pipeline.
The Gujarat government has set up a pumping station at Navda, which has a capacity to pump 100 crore ltr of water per day. The parallel pipeline has a diameter of 6.5 ft and has a capacity to carry 33 crore ltr of water a day.
The water pipeline and the Navda pumping station will supply Narmada water to Rajkot, Amreli, Botad, Bhavnagar, Junagadh and Gir Somnath districts for drinking purposes.
The project will benefit around 76 lakh people living in 2,325 villages and 38 cities and towns in the six districts of Saurashtra.
