The Gujarat government has given its nod to the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) project.
The Rs 10,000 crore state industrial infrastructure project will be developed on 2,000 acre of land near Khajod village, situated on the outskirts of Surat.
The industrial facilities in the Diamond Bourse project are being planned on lines with the Gujarat International Finance Tech City (GIFT City) project.
The state government has envisaged developing an integrated industrial zone, where there will be hotels, banks, shopping malls, entertainment facilities, sports complex, gardens, schools, and residential zones, and is also eyeing to attract offices of jewellery, textile and jari work.
12,000 diamond firms that include 2,000 overseas firms, have already given their demand letters to open their offices in the proposed SDB building near Surat. The SDB development committee has received demand letters from 5,000 Mumbai-based diamond processing firms, 2,000 overseas firms and 5,000 firms from Surat, Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar.
The Committee has demanded three lakh mtr of land from the Gujarat government. The ground breaking ceremony of the project is expected to be done within the next four months.
