Vedanta Group firm Hindustan Zinc plans to double its metal production to two MTPA within five years. With India's expanding steel capacity and infrastructure focus, the company is on track to achieve this milestone by 2030, "as our zinc plays a critical role in steel galvanisation," as noted by Chairperson Priya Agarwal Hebbar in a letter to hareholders.
Currently producing 1.1 MTPA, Hindustan Zinc is also venturing into critical minerals, securing multiple mining blocks. Its roaster and fertiliser plant projects are progressing as planned, reinforcing its growth trajectory. The company credits its record-breaking production to advanced digitalisation and automation, employing tele-remote operations and robotics to enhance efficiency and safety. Artificial intelligence-driven improvements in ore extraction, processing, and production further boost productivity.
As the world’s second-largest integrated zinc producer and third-largest silver producer, it remains committed to innovation and sustainable growth.
