Hyderabad Metro rail is likely to complete the first eight km of Nagole-Mettuguda section of the Hyderabad elevated MRTS project by December 2014.
After the approval from the Commissioner of Railway Safety, the developer will commence trial run for the metro rail on the stretch, in March 2015.
Work on the project, seeking to decongest three dense corridors with a 72 km elevated rail, is on in different parts of the city. The work at Uppal and Miyapur depots are also progressing at a brisk pace with nearly 80 per cent and 40 per cent work, respectively, being completed so far. Two fire stations are likely to come up at Miyapur. The entire project is estimated to cost Rs 16,375 crore.
Meanwhile, as part of an urban redesign, the developer is also planning to construct 200 skywalks and quality public space at metro rail stations, with street furniture, bicycle stations, bicycle tracks, footpaths and other pedestrian facilities, programme.
