ITC plans to set up plants across six states to become a pan-India dairy entity. The six states are Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
The company envisions launching ghee which could be followed by milk powder by the end of this year. ITC might use the milk powder for its food business in the initial stage.
ITC’s Integrated Rural Development program will allow access to one million reproductive cattle across seven states from which it could source milk. With its 261 cattle development centres in states like Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Karnataka, it has managed to increase daily yields nearly four times, to upto 11 ltr.
ITC is working with 30,000 farms in Bihar’s Munger to get them familiar with the best animal husbandry practices.
