Union Minister for Consumer Affairs and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, on 15 June, 2025 announced that India has reached 51.5 GW of wind energy capacity—marking a 150 percent growth over the past decade. Addressing the stakeholders at Global Wind Day Conference in Bengaluru, the Minister attributed this achievement to the “visionary leadership” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has positioned clean energy as a core pillar of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
India now exports wind turbines and components globally and stands as the world’s fourth-largest wind power generator and third-largest renewable energy producer. The country is targeting 100 GW wind capacity by 2030, including 30 GW from offshore sources, supported by robust policies and a strong manufacturing ecosystem.
Highlighting progress since 2014, the Minister noted that renewable energy capacity has risen from 0.242 GW in solar and 22 GW in wind to 110 GW and 51.5 GW respectively. He also cited the government’s Viability Gap Funding scheme worth Rs 7,453 crore to boost offshore wind projects.
