The Government of Kerala has sanctioned Rs 3,000 crore for regional rapid rail project.
The project will run two trains from Thiruvananthapuram to Chengannur and Haripad in Kerala. It will be a joint initiative of the centre and the state. The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC), which is preparing the detailed project report, will submit the report by December 2013. The project has been designed to supplement the existing trains that run in these sectors.
Meanwhile, the state government has also proposed to set up Kerala Maritime Board (KMB), with an investment of Rs 20 crore. The proposed board will look at all possible avenues for port-related activities. The board will also initiate state-of-the-art maritime services, and will monitor maritime and ecological issues on a regular basis along the 580 km Kerala coast.
