The Kolkata Metro Rail Project marked a key milestone with the successful trial run on a 7.03 km stretch of the under-construction Line 4 (Yellow Line), connecting Jai Hind Bimanbandar (Airport) to Noapara, part of a larger 16.876 km corridor between Noapara and Barasat.

The full line will include 10 stations, while the current trial covered 4 stations, notably Dum Dum Cantt, Jessore Road, Biman Bandar, and Noapara. The trial was carried out using Rake No. MR 413 in the presence of Metro Railway General Manager P Uday Kumar Reddy and other senior officials.

GM Reddy commented, “This stretch, once commissioned, would be a revolutionary step in providing a modern transport system to the people of Kolkata and suburbs to reach the airport.” He also personally inspected the Yellow Line stretch, ensuring readiness for the upcoming phases. The Metro’s expansion aims to significantly improve airport connectivity, reduce traffic, and enhance suburban commuting in eastern India’s largest metropolis.
