Konkan Railway Corporation is exploring options to construct a second line on sections of the route that runs on the plains.
The corporation has conducted an initial study and concluded that it will be feasible to lay a second line. The Konkan railway is a 741 km single line route. As per the study, doubling the track is possible on about 300 km which runs on the plains.
Konkan Railway Corporation plans to go for patch doubling (railway language for laying new tracks on sections where it is possible) and the initial estimate for the work is being planned.
