Lanco Solar, a unit of the Hyderabad-based Lanco Group, is likely to start its photovoltaic (PV) solar cell manufacturing plant at the SEZ in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh in June 2014.
Lanco intends to produce 300 MW solar cells. The group is infusing Rs 3000 crore into the venture. Currently, the plant manufactures only solar modules. The raw material - metallurgical silicon - for the plant will be imported. Initially the plant will export nearly 15 per cent of its solar cells.
Meanwhile, Lanco has inked a pact with the US-based GT Solar to provide key technology to be used in the plant.
