The Maharashtra Cabinet has sanctioned a proposal for expansion of an airport at Amravati.
Earlier, the project was to be developed by Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), but now it will be developed by Airports Authority of India (AAI). The state cabinet will hand over 336 ha of land to AAI for the project, on a lease of Rs one lakh every month, for 60 years.
The proposed project will evolve within three years. The company will develop a runway that will be used to land A-320 type planes, a night landing facility, and a taxiway. Also, the existing airstrip will be expanded up to 2,500 mtr.
Further, the state government has sanctioned Rs 34 core for upgrading infrastructure on roads leading to the proposed airport.
