Marsons, a Kolkata-based power equipment manufacturer, has significantly expanded its annual transformer manufacturing capacity to 10,000 MVA, positioning itself among the country’s larger transformer producers by installed capacity.
The expansion was driven by Marsons’ robust order book and expectations of rising demand across utilities, industrial customers, and independent power producers (IPPs). Current projects include a 160 MVA, 220kV class transformer for Inox, and 50 MVA and 80 MVA, 132kV class transformers for West Bengal State Electricity Transmission Company (WBSETCL).
The company has also diversified into inverter duty transformers (IDTs) and wind turbine generator (WTG) transformers, supplying to IPPs, MAHAGENCO, and Inox Wind through EPC contractors. Within the medium power category, 10 MVA units represent the highest execution volumes, with supplies reaching state utilities in Maharashtra, Bihar, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh. This scale-up is expected to enhance productivity and cost efficiencies.
