Maruti Suzuki, India's car maker, is likely to delay commissioning of its facility in Mehsana, Gujarat.
The company has yet to commence construction at the site. It will conduct a detailed study of demand for automobiles in the domestic market through the next two or three years after which work will commence on the project. The company is unlikely to commission the unit by the end of 2015-16
The Gujarat government had allotted 700 acre to Maruti Suzuki for setting up a manufacturing unit in Mehsana. For the facility, the company had planned an investment of Rs 4,000 crore, with an initial capacity of 2,50,000 units.
Earlier, the company had acquired an additional 700 acre in Vithlapur to set up a second unit in the state.
