BHEL, Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), Sambhar Salt (SSL), Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL), Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVNL) and Rajasthan Electronics & Instruments (REIL) have signed an MoU for setting up an ultra mega solar power plant in Rajasthan.
The MoU signed for the project will be forwarded to the Cabinet for approval. The ultra mega solar power plant will be spread over 19,000 acre of land at Sambhar in Rajasthan, which will be provided by SSL.
The JV for the project will be set up by the Department of Heavy Industry for implementing this project.
The equity participation by the JV company will be 26 per cent from BHEL, 23 per cent from SECI, 16 per cent from SSL, 16 per cent from PGCIL, 16 per cent from SJVNL and three per cent from REIL.
The project will be developed in various phases within seven to eight years. Phase-I of the project, having a capacity of 1,000 MW, is estimated to cost Rs 7,500 crore and is expected to be completed in three years. The other 3,000 MW capacity will be established in subsequent phases.
For the solar power plant project, BHEL will supply equipment; PGCIL will evacuate power; SECI will handle the sale of electricity; operation and maintenance of the power plant will be done by REIL; and the project will be managed by SJVNL.
