Motorists on the Mumbai–Nashik Highway can look forward to much-needed relief as the road-widening project between Thane and Vadape nears completion.
As of now, 81 percent of the 28.80 km stretch between Majiwada and Vadape has been widened, and 88 percent percent of the 18.35 km-long service road is ready. The work is progressing steadily, with completion expected by the end of March, in line with the overall project deadline. The project, which started in June 2021, aims to expand the highway from four lanes to eight, addressing the severe traffic snarls along the route.
The project also includes the construction of four key bridges: the Vadape flyover, Pimpalner railway bridge, Kasheli creek bridge, and Kalwa creek bridge. The Kalwa creek bridge is expected to open soon, while the other bridges will likely be operational within the next fortnight. Additionally, ten underpasses are being built, with two set to finish by February end. A 38-lane toll plaza will also be constructed at Kharegaon to recover the project cost of Rs 1,182.87 crore.
