A 2.3-km-long aqueduct on the Chambal River in Rajasthan is set to improve water supply for drinking and irrigation across 17 districts.
This aqueduct is part of the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal link project, integrated with the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) and included in the national river linking plan. The project aims to transfer excess water from the Chambal basin to water-scarce regions, benefiting a population of 3.25 crore. The agreement for the project was signed between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on 17 December, 2024.
The aqueduct will connect Pipalda Samel village in Kota district with Guhata in Bundi district. Water will be transported from the Navnera barrage to several dams in the area, enhancing irrigation. The aqueduct's construction, costing Rs 2,230 crore, is expected to finish by June 2028. It will also serve as an additional public transport route and is a key component of the Rs 90,000 crore project aimed at solving water scarcity issues in Rajasthan.
