SAIL may begin work on its steel-cum-fertiliser complex at Sindri in Jharkhand soon.
The project investment is pegged at Rs 35,000 crore. SAIL has formed a SPV - SAIL Sindri Projects (SSPL) with 89 per cent stake in it while the remaining 11 per cent is held by the Fertiliser Corporation of India (FCIL).
The project envisages setting up a 5.6 million tpa steel plant, 1.5 million tpa urea plant and 1,000 MW power plant at the erstwhile FCIL complex. Of the total cost, Rs 26,000 crore is to be spent on the steel mill and about Rs 4,500 crore on the urea unit, while the rest amount will be utilised for setting up the power project.
