IL&FS Environmental Infrastructure and Services waste-to-energy plant at Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh is set to commence pilot runs by end-October 2012.
The 12 MW plant is based on Belgian technology. The company will utilise combustible waste, such as paper, mattresses, and rubber to produce recycled products and energy. It will undertake an area development plan once output begins. It had a scientific way of processing every aspect of waste – biodegradable, inert and combustible. The biodegradable waste is converted into compost, the inert waste (construction and demolition debris) is turned into blocks and kerb stones.
Once power generation begins, scheduled for December 2013, the company will be free to sell 50 per cent of it.
