The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) has rejected a request by ABG Ports to bid for the construction of container terminal at the port facility at Nhava Sheva.
The company has received the bidding for the new 330-metre container terminal at the port facility at Nhava Sheva in Maharashtra. The proposed container berth is expected to cost Rs 600 crore and will handle more than 800,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) per annum and help reduce congestion at the port. Incoming Container ships face long turnaround time, raising cost of business for shipping liners and exporters.
JNPT has also received favourable legal opinion on inviting fresh bids for the construction of a fourth container terminal and the company is likely to invite fresh tenders in the next few months. JNPT had earlier also rejected a bid by ABG Ports citing anti-monopoly guidelines since the company was chosen by the port to construct a mega fourth container terminal at a cost of Rs 8,500 crore.
