The Raxaul–Haldia Greenfield Expressway project has entered a crucial phase with authorities initiating land acquisition across the district.
The proposed high-speed corridor will cover nearly 36 km locally and pass through 72 villages spread across five blocks. District officials have completed preparatory work and submitted the Social Impact Assessment report to the National Highways Authority of India, detailing affected villages, farmers, landholders and the extent of land required. With the assessment now complete, the next step will focus on fixing compensation for those impacted. Planned as a 37-mtrs.-wide greenfield expressway, the route will directly link Raxaul near the Nepal border with Haldia, a major industrial and port city in West Bengal.
Once completed, it is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Bihar, Kolkata and Haldia Port, while boosting trade, logistics, agriculture and local industry. The land acquisition process will be carried out transparently under legal provisions,, and compensation and eligible benefits will be provided as per government norms. Construction is expected to begin after acquisition formalities are completed.
