Renault-Nissan, a global alliance between France's Renault SA and Japan's Nissan Motor Co, is planning to expand its manufacturing plant at Oragadam in Chennai district of Tamil Nadu.
The company intends to increase the capacity of the plant from the existing 4,00,000 units per annum to 5,00,000 per annum. The expansion plan is a part of its strategy to have 15 per cent market share in India.
In line with this, the company will also set up a new manufacturing unit at the same location, which will eventually take the plant capacity to 600,000 units per annum. It has also announced that it would double its investments in India to $5 billion (approx Rs 29,640 crore).
Furthermore, the company will manufacture the new five-door hatchback, Datsun Go, at its Oragadam facility.
