The modernisation of six airport projects has been put on the back burner, on the recommendations of the Election Commission.
The six airport projects are: Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Guwahati, Lucknow, and Jaipur. All these projects are being undertaken by Airport Authority of India (AAI).
The developer will now defer the date of submission of bids till the election process is over. The modernisation process began in September 2013, when AAI invited pre-qualification bids from private parties for development, operation and management of these airports by issuing request for qualification (RfQ).
While AAI was hoping to complete the exercise before the model code of conduct came into force, it was unable to move since even the RfQ stage had not been reached.
