The Sonsoddo solid waste project of Fomento Green & Waste Management Service, in Goa, is facing delay due to a setback in construction of the landfill site at Sonsoddo.
The project is expected to be completed after the monsoons. As per the concession agreement between Fomento Green and Margao Municipal Council (MMC), excavation of mud is necessary to construct the landfill site, which upon completion, will make the treatment plant fully operational.
However, the excavation of mud stopped in October 2013 as the Raia locals blocked trucks carrying mud from the Sonsoddo solid waste treatment plant's landfill site.
In November 2013, the department of town and country planning was asked to grant fresh clearance to complete the project, but the department hasn't done so yet.
Excavation work on the landfill site will take around 15 days and the developer will require around 10 days for the mobilization of resources, after which the project is expected to be completed post monsoons.
