Suzuki Motor Corp of Japan, a parent company of Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL), is likely to commission its proposed Gujarat plant by 2017.
The new plant will have a capacity of 1.5 million units per year. The car factory will come up with an investment of Rs 18,500 crore.
MSIL is in the process of getting the minority shareholders' nod to let its parent Suzuki Motor Corp own and invest in its Gujarat facility. Suzuki Motors will set up a 100 per cent subsidiary, Suzuki Motor Gujarat, to set up the plant.
Maruti Suzuki presently has a combined capacity of 1.5 million units at its Gurgaon and Manesar plants.
