The Maharashtra government and Central government have approved three airport projects of the state.
The three projects are Navi Mumbai International Airport, Pune International Airport, and the airport project in Nagpur.
The Navi Mumbai International Airport project being developed by City & Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra is estimated to cost Rs 14,573 crore. The project is likely to be awarded by March 2014. The state government has finalised the Project Affected Persons (PAPs) agreement. With this, all decks have been cleared to move ahead on the project which has already received all the necessary clearances. The airport is expected to reach full capacity by 2015.
For the Pune project, the state and central government have decided that the project will be developed for Pune at Khed and will be lead-managed by the Airports Authority of India. The airport, being developed by Maharashtra Airport Development Corporation, is estimated to cost Rs 7,500 crore.
Meanwhile, for the Nagpur airport project, both governments have decided that the Centre will move to exchange the necessary land with the state government so that work on this project can begin immediately. The project is being developed by Maharashtra Airport Development Corporation with an investment of Rs 5,000 crore.
