Work on the extension of the railway line between Udaipur and Sabroom, proposed by Northeast Frontier Railway, has been stuck due to non-receipt of requisite environment clearance for the project.
About 70 per cent of the total railway line will be laid in reserve forest areas.
The project is facing hurdles as about 155.49 acre of 'jote' land has been allotted to the Northeast Frontier Railway in Bagafa forest division. The remaining plot for the project will be handed over to the promoter once it gets the requisite clearance from the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF).
The Tripura government has taken up the matter with the Centre to get the necessary approvals so that work on the project can commence soon.
The 56 km railway line is scheduled to be completed by December 2016. The completion of the proposed project depends on the timely acquisition of land for the project.
The Udaipur and Sabroom railway line is the extended part of Agartala and Udaipur route, which is slated for completion by March 2015.
