The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) has issued a conditional safety clearance for the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro Corridor (Phase-I of the Mumbai Metro).
CMRS had conducted the safety check between 18 April to 26 April 2014, on Phase-I of the project.
Though the 11.4 km elevated corridor has been issued a conditional safety certificate by the CMRS, it still has to get a few minor clearances related to rolling stock and electrical installations from the Railway Board.
Once the project receives the requisite clearance from the Railway Board, the Mumbai Metro One (MMOPL) -- the special purpose vehicle (SPV) which has undertaken the project -- will have to present the safety certificate issued by CMRS to the Ministry of Railways, to declare the line open for public use.
After receipt of the requisite clearances from the Railway Board, the MMOPL expects to open the line for public use within one week of the approval.
