The Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar (VAG) metro corridor (Phase-I), undertaken by Mumbai Metro One (MMOPL) has received clearance from the statutory technical body-Research, Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO).
After receiving approval from RDSO for the 11.7 km elevated stretch, the MMOPL will now approach the commissioner of metro rail safety (CMRS) for final approval.
On 13 February 2014, a team of 10 RDSO members carried out oscillation trials which included the study of train behaviour like acceleration and deceleration, suspension, emergency brake distance and track parameters, and adherence to safety and technical specifications.
The oscillation and emergency brake distance trials were conducted at a maximum speed of 90 kmph and were completed in a record time of 11 days.
Phase-I of the project is likely to be opened by April 2014, if CMRS does not find anything objectionable during the inspection.
The total cost of the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar (VAG) metro corridor (Phase-I) is Rs 2,400 crore.
