Whirlpool has put its plans to expand its manufacturing facilities in India, on hold, due to poor demand.
The company has deferred its plans to augment the capacity of its two main product lines -- refrigerators and washing machines -- and postponed its plans to locally manufacture air conditioners and water purifiers.
The move will help the firm protect its profitability in a tough market.
Whirlpool has increased its investment in India to Rs 233 crore in 2014, from Rs 147 crore in 2012. The company is planning to launch more than 210 models in the country in 2014, backed by marketing of around Rs 75 crore.
