Work on as many as six greenfiled airport projects in the country have commenced.
Of the total, the construction work on three projects in Karnataka, namely, Gulbarga, Hassan, and Shimoga has commenced. Another three projects -- Durgapur in West Bengal, Pakyong in Sikkim, and Shirdi in Maharashtra have started work.
The Hassan project being developed by Airport Authority of India is estimated to cost Rs 3,000 crore. The project is coming up over 2,500 acre near Bhuvanahalli in Hassan district of Karnataka.
Meanwhile, the work on greenfield airport project at Aranmula in Kerala will be commenced as soon as the project gets clearance from MoEF. The project is being developed by KGS Aranmula Airport with an investment of Rs 2,000 crore.
