Chenab Valley Power Projects (CVPPL) is finally in the process of starting work on the execution of the 1,000 MW hydroelectric project in the Kishtwar district in the state, as early as April 2015.
This project is expected to create local employment along with boosting local infrastructure and tourism. This will lead to overall development of the villages in the state.
Drangdhuran Consortium has emerged as the lowest bidder for the project. It quoted around Rs 350 crore lower than the second lowest bid for this contract. The consortium partners consist of BHEL -- a state-owned heavy engineering firm which has commissioned 1,38,000 MW of installed capacity, i.e. 57 percent of India’s total installed capacity -- and Turkish giant, Limak Construction, and Patel Engineering.
CVPPL is a joint venture company floated by Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC), National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC), and Power Trading Corporation (PTC).
