Work on the Loktak Hydel project of NHPC in Manipur is likely to commence by 2014.
The 66 MW power project is to be implemented by Loktak Downstream Hydroelectric Corp (LDHC), an SPV of NHPC and government of Manipur, with 74 per cent and 26 per cent equity respectively. The project envisages construction of barrage over Leimatak river at Toushang under Tamenglong district at a cost of Rs 867.77 crore. The project includes construction of a 36 km stretch from Tupul to Toushang road. Currently, more than 90 per cent work on the 36 km road is completed, which will facilitate easy material transportation for the construction site. Once the road is completed, construction work on the hydro project will commence by early 2014.
Meanwhile, LDHC has invited bids for construction of a hydroelectric project on turnkey basis. The scope of work includes all necessary additional investigations, overall planning, design, engineering, all civil works, manufacturing, transportation, erection, testing and commissioning, and hydro-mechanical works for the project (Tender).
