Coca-Cola, the beverages major, has begun its hunt for a new site for setting up its new bottling facility which was earlier supposed to be set up at Chharba village, in Dehradun district of Uttarakhand.
The company has dropped its plan to set up the new bottling plant, after the Uttarakhand High Court asked the state government to return the 25 acre located at Chharba, to the local gram panchayat.
Apart from this, the company is in discussions with State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand (SIDCUL), and has requested for an alternative site in an industrial area with adequate infrastructure facilities already in place and other industries in operation.
Coca-Cola was looking forward to investing Rs 600 crore for setting up the facility and the 25 acre was part of that plan.
In 2013, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, the Indian arm of Coca-Cola, had signed an MoU with SIDCUL for the plant.
