Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT), is likely to invite fresh bids for expansion of container terminal Project at Andhra Pradesh.
In August 2012, VPT had invited bids for implementation of the Rs 633 crore expansion project to extend the existing container terminal and to add a capacity of 0.54 million TEUs to the existing 0.40 million TEUs.
Along with Visakhapatnam Container Terminal (VCTPL), around six other companies - Simplex Infra, NEC, Gangavaram Port, Adani Group, Welspun and Leighton, and Gammon India - were qualified in the RFQ stage. Six firms backed out in the next stage of bidding because of strict conditions placed in the contract. Only VCTPL submitted the price bid and emerged as the lone bidder for the project.
However, there were differences between VPT and VCTPL over revenue-sharing. Since there was no progress in the talks, VPT authorities have sought recourse to re-tendering.
Fresh price bids will be invited from the earlier qualified six bidders as well as from VCTPL to settle the issue.
